Holiday Reading Challenge

For this holiday reading task I did food glorious food. I had to read book with a recipe in it. I read a book called Horrible Histories The Rotten Romans. The recipe in this book was how Romans made numidian chicken. Here is the recipe:
NUMIDIAN CHICKEN
Ingredients:
  • Chicken pieces (One for each person)
  • Cumin powder (Quarter teaspoon)
  • Coriander seeds (Quarter teaspoon)
  • 4 dates (Chopped into small pieces
  • Chopped nuts (4 tablespoons)
  • Honey (2 tablespoons)
  • Wine vinegar (2 tablespoons)
  • Chicken stock (1 chicken stock cube crumbled in a cup of water)
  • Pepper (A pinch)
  • Cooking oil (1 tablespoon)
  • Bread crumbs (1 slice of dry bread) 
Method:
  • Put the chicken pieces in a roasting dish.
  • Brush them with cooking oil, sprinkle them with pepper and cover the dish with cooking foil.
  • Roast the pieces at 350°F, 180°C or gas mark 4 for half an hour.  
  • While the chicken is roasting, put the other ingredients in into a pan and simmer for twenty minutes to make the numidian sauce.
  • When the chicken pieces are ready, put them on a serving dish and pour over the sauce.
  • Serve the chicken with vegetables.

Holiday Reading Challenge: Food Glorious Food

Title - Horrible Histories The Stormin' Normans
Author - Terry Deary
Type of book - Non-Fiction and History
Recipe - You need:
Meat, Eggs, Cheese, Pastry

To make:
Boil the meat in a pan of water till it is cooked.
Make pastry and roll it out.
Chop up the meat, beat the eggs and grate the cheese then stir them together.
Make the mixture into balls about the size of apples.
Wrap ball in pastry.
Bake in a hot oven till the pastry is golden brown.

To serve:
Place on a wooded plate and eat with a knife and fingers.
