For this holiday reading task I did food glorious food. I had to read book with a recipe in it. I read a book called Horrible Histories The Rotten Romans. The recipe in this book was how Romans made numidian chicken. Here is the recipe:
  • Chicken pieces (One for each person)
  • Cumin powder (Quarter teaspoon)
  • Coriander seeds (Quarter teaspoon)
  • 4 dates (Chopped into small pieces
  • Chopped nuts (4 tablespoons)
  • Honey (2 tablespoons)
  • Wine vinegar (2 tablespoons)
  • Chicken stock (1 chicken stock cube crumbled in a cup of water)
  • Pepper (A pinch)
  • Cooking oil (1 tablespoon)
  • Bread crumbs (1 slice of dry bread)
  • Put the chicken pieces in a roasting dish.
  • Brush them with cooking oil, sprinkle them with pepper and cover the dish with cooking foil.
  • Roast the pieces at 350°F, 180°C or gas mark 4 for half an hour.
  • While the chicken is roasting, put the other ingredients in into a pan and simmer for twenty minutes to make the numidian sauce.
  • When the chicken pieces are ready, put them on a serving dish and pour over the sauce.
  • Serve the chicken with vegetables.
