Summer Learning Journey W1 D2 A2

For this summer learning journey activity, the task was to: What is your dream job? Draw a picture of yourself doing your dream job and post it on your blog. You could be a doctor, an actor or even a zookeeper!

My dream job is being a sailor or someone to works out at sea as I love being out in the ocean (swimming or in a boat).

Summer Learning Journey W1 D1 A2

For this summer learning journey activity, the task was to:

Imagine that you were on board one of the wakas. On your blog, write a short letter to a friend telling them about your voyage to New Zealand. In the letter be sure to tell them how you feel about moving to a new country. If it was me, I would have felt really nervous…

Dear Johnny,
The voyage to this new land was hard. Most of our food had expired before we were even halfway here so most of us are hungry. The journey was also cold, with many storms that soaked us from head to toe. Hopefully we will be able to find some food in this new country. Goodbye for now.

PBS Blogging Journey

For this PBS Blogging Journey activity, the task is to: Find out about a parade that is held outside the Auckland Museum once a year (When it is held and why it is held). Record your answer on Vocaroo and post it on your blog.

Here is the link to my recording: https://vocaroo.com/i/s0WV00Eg55rI

PBS Blogging Journey

For this PBS Blogging Journey activity, the task is to: Choose one of the sea creatures in Kelly Tarltons and make an info-graphic about them. Full points in you include an image and attribute it. I decided to choose one of the seahorses called the Big Bellied Seahorse. It is a very big seahorse and looks pretty funny because it's belly is so big.

PBS Blogging Journey

For this PBS blogging journey activity, the task was to: Create a mascot for the Sky Tower as Scotty (The Sky Tower mascot) is away. Write a explanation about why you chose your mascot. My mascot is named Bob and I chose him because he is designed to look kind of like the Sky Tower (Really tall and thin).

PBS Blogging Journey

Image result for Stratosfear
For this PBS blogging journey activity, I have to find out the minimum height to ride the stratosphere and why I think there is a height restriction. There are two different modes of the ride, the very extreme and the less extreme. For the very extreme (360 degree swing angle) mode, the height restriction is 150 centimeters. For the less extreme (45 degree swing angle) mode, the height restriction is 130 centimeters. I think that there is a height restriction because if you are a young/small person, you could slip off your seat and fall.

Winter Learning Journey

For this winter learning journey activity, I have to take a picture of myself doing something that I find relaxing. I find reading really relaxing so I decided to take a picture of myself reading. The book I was reading is called John Paul Jones who was a man who fought in the American navy.

Winter Learning Journey

For this winter learning journey activity, I have to read about the Matariki Festival at Te Papa and choose three events to write about. These are the three events I picked:
1. Matariki Dawn: Special opening weekend at space place
2. Lantern making with artist Yvonne de Mille
3. Guided tour through the great war exhibition

Winter Learning Journey

For this winter learning journey activity, I had to research a famous New Zealander. I chose Peter Jackson because I love his Hobbit and Lord Of The Rings trilogy's.

Winter Learning Journey

For this winter learning journey task, I have to watch two trailers of a movie called Whale Rider. I then have to write a summary of the movie and rate it out of five. The movie is about a girl whose twin brother was supposed to be the next chief in their tribe. However, the boy dies when he is born and his sister survives. Only males are allowed to become a chief so the custom is changed when the brother dies, and the sister survives. I give this movie a 3 out of 5 because it doesn’t really seem like a movie i’d want to watch

Winter Learning Journey

For this activity in the winter learning journey I had to read about how people in New Zealand are working to kill pests like possums, form a opinion and give three reasons why I think that way. I agree with the New Zealanders who are killing these pests and I think all the pests should be killed because:

  1. The pests damage native trees
  2. The pests could be killing New Zealand native animals like the kokako (By eating their eggs/chicks)
  3. Possums are also a hazard for farms, costing them around $35 million every yeat

Winter Learning Journey

For this activity, I had to watch a video of the youngest person to ever sail around the world. Her name is Laura Dekker. I had to imagine that I had the chance to interview Laura and the five questions I would ask her. Here are the questions I would ask her:

  1. What inspired you to sail around the world?
  2. How did you feel when you finally managed to finish you incredible journey?
  3. Did you ever feel, at any point like you wanted to give up?
  4. Did you think sailing around the world would be easy or hard?
  5. Were you confident in your abilities to make it all the way round the world during the journey?

Winter Learning Journey

For this activity in the winter learning journey, I had to watch this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-qldi00zUxA
and once I finished the video, I had to choose my favourite five activities from the video.

  1. Go to rainbows end!!!
  2. Tree top walk in the Waitakere Ranges
  3. Going to one of the west coast beaches
  4. Base jump off the sky tower
  5. Go to the war memorial museum

Summer Learning Journey

For this summer learning journey activity, I have to think about the two things that I learnt from my travels. I learnt that Canada is a very interesting place with lots of awesome landmarks (Natural and man-made). It also has its own unique foods that are special to them.

Summer Learning Journey

For this summer learning journey activity, I watched a YouTube clip about amazing vehicles. The vehicle that I liked the best was the suitcase scooter because it looked very funny and it is pretty useful too. You can store things inside the suitcase and you can ride on it (It can carry up to two people).

Summer Learning Journey

For this activity, I have to find two indigenous animals. That means that they are originally from your country. The two indigenous animals that I picked are the Canada Lynx and the Bighorn Sheep.
Canada Lynx:
Diet - Show Shoe Hares
Habitat - Forests of Canada

Bighorn Sheep:
Diet - Grass (In Summer) and Willow (In Winter)
Habitat - Mountains In South Canada

Summer Learning Journey

For this summer learning journey task, I have to imagine that I have been asked to host a visitor from another country. I would take them to these three places: Rainbow's End, Auckland Sky Tower and to the Southern Alps. Rainbow's End because it's a great theme park and I always have fun there. The Auckland Sky Tower because of the amazing view at the top (Where you can look out the glass). I would also like to take them to the Southern Alps because climbing a mountain would be a amazing experience.

Summer Learning Journey

For this summer learning journey activity I have to create a new public holiday for the country I chose (I chose Canada). I named this holiday relax day. Everyone gets a day off work or school and stays home to relax. It will only happen once a year (In the middle of the year).

Summer Learning Journey

For this summer learning journey I have to imagine that I was alive 100 years ago and how I would feel if I left school at 12 or 13. I would fell happy and sad. Happy, because I am leaving school and sad because I probably won't see my friends a lot.
