Summer Learning Journey

For this task, I have to recommend a book to curious kiwi (The summer learning journeys mascot). I would recommend him to read a book called the Hobbit. It is a book about a person who goes on a quest with his friends. I think curious kiwi would love to read this book and would enjoy it a lot.

    1. Hi AJ and Daniel,

I also really liked the way that Daniel drew the link between The Hobbit and Curious Kiwi. That was really well done and a great thing to draw our attention to, AJ.

Keep up the great work guys!

      Cheers,
      Rachel

  2. Hi, Daniel!

I'm Willy, one of the commenters for the Summer Learning Journey.

I agree with Aminiasi, it does sound really interesting. You know, I have actually read the whole book...just kidding, I lied. I only read up to the part of the armies fighting each other and skipped to the end. I mean, it's a REALLY long book to read, isn't it? But, thanks to the interesting adventures Bilbo Baggins and his friends go on, from answering riddles to stealing things to walking long lengths, it will keep the reader hooked all through the flight journey.

    Good recommendation! Keep it up!

    1. Hi Willy and Daniel!

It's great to read that you would both recommend The Hobbit to Curious Kiwi. It really is a fascinating book. My son, Aronui, would really enjoy it, I bet. He's only 6 years old, though. Do you think that he might find it a bit scary?

I am planning to take Aronui to the local library over the week-end to find some good reading material for the Christmas break. Do either of you have any other suggestions for books that you read a few years ago (perhaps in Years 4-6) that you enjoyed? Aronui particularly likes books that have an adventure theme or include superheroes...

I'd really appreciate any suggestions that you might have!

      All the best,

      Rachel :)

    2. Hi, Rachel,

If I had to suggest a book, I would suggest "Voices in the Park" by Anthony Browne.

Back in 2013 my teacher introduced me to the book, along with other classmates of mine. I haven't read "Voices in the Park" ever since Year 6, but back then, my classmates and I would enjoy reading the book and find different meanings to the story from looking at the illustrations.

      Hope that's a good suggestion!
      -Willy

  5. Wow great commenting everyone! No doubt Daniel really appreciates everyone taking the time to read and comment on his blogs. It's fun reading through everyone's comments as well.

I'm so happy you recommended The Hobbit to Curious Kiwi. It fits perfectly with the adventure you're planning throughout your Summer Learning Journey. I've read The Hobbit a few times and I really enjoy it, it's such a fun tale to read. The author sure had a wonderful imagination! Have you ever read it before Daniel? Willy is right, it's quite a long book so it might take a while to read (although that would make it perfect for a long flight wouldn't it?)

Maybe if the book was too long for Curious Kiwi, you could recommend The Hobbit movies to watch instead? But in my opinion, the books are always better...

    Happy reading!
    Dan.
