Summer Learning Journey

For this summer learning journey activity I have to write what I do in a school day. Here is a timetable for one day at school (Sometimes we do different things each day though).
8:55 - Roll call
9:00 - Maths
9:45 - Reading
10:30 - Break
10:50 - Writing
12:30 - Break
1:30 - Inquiry
3:00 - Home time

Summer Learning Journey

For this task I have to think about my favorite subject at school. I think my favorite subject at school is reading because I like to read books. I like that subject because reading can help you when you are older (Maybe if you apply for a job you might need to read somethings).

Summer Learning Journey

For this summer learning journey activity, I have to compare one of my school days to a German student one. Some things are similar, like maths for example. We normally have maths in the morning. I would rather go to school in New Zealand though because in Germany they have to learn English, French and German. Learning three languages is probably hard.

Summer Learning Journey

For this activity, I have to interview one of my family members and ask them some things. I interview my mum.
1. What is your name? - Emmy
2. Where were you born - Samoa
3. How many siblings do you have? - Five
4. What is your favorite thing about living in New Zealand? - Visiting beautiful parts of NZ
5. If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go? Why? - I want to go to Hawaii because I heard that Hawaii has beautiful beaches and they have a great culture.

Summer Learning Journey

For this activity I have to imagine what it would be like living with 18 other siblings. I would like that we could all participate in a big family game, but I wouldn't like it when it was time for something like pizza. Everyone would probably only get one or two slices each.

Summer Learning Journey

For this summer learning journey activity, I have to write about my family. There are five of us (My mum, dad and my two brothers). My Mum's name is Emmy and my Dad's name is Nick. Thomas and Alex are my two brothers.

Summer Learning Journey

Summer Activities:
For this task, I had to ask one of my family or friends what their five favorite things to do in the summer time. I asked my brother Thomas.
1. Go to the pools
2. Go to the library
3. Play mine craft
4. Hang out with friends
5. Practice playing recorder

Summer Learning Journey

For this summer learning journey task, I have to either take a picture of myself doing one of my favorite summer time activities or I can write a paragraph that has the things I like doing on in it. My most favorite thing would be to go to the pools because it would cool me down on a hot day. My second favorite thing is to lie on my bed and read.

Summer Learning Journey

For this task, I have to say whether or not I think breakfast is the most important meal of the deal. Numerous researchers believe breakfast is the most important meal of the day but many people disagree. I think breakfast is the most important meal of the day because I can't focus at school if my stomach is growling.

Summer Learning Journey

For this summer learning journey task, I have to take a picture of myself eating some famous foods that come out of New Zealand (Kiwifruit, lamb, hokey pokey ice cream, pavlova, bacon and egg pie and more). I took a picture of myself eating some kiwifruit.

Summer Learning Journey

Pancake Food Butter Maple Syrup 4k full hd iphone android wallpaper
For this summer learning journey task, I have to compare what is eaten commonly in the country I have chosen to visit and what I eat here in New Zealand. I usually have weet-bix for breakfast and in Canada, a breakfast that is common is pancakes with maple syrup. I would prefer to have maple syrup and pancakes for breakfast because it sounds (And looks) much more appealing than weet-bix.

Summer Learning Journey

For this summer learning journey activity, I have to translate five phrases into Spanish, German, Malaysian, Japanese, Arabic or Afrikaans. I chose to translate it from English to Spanish. I used google translate to translate these phrases.

Good morning - Buenos días
Good bye - Adiós
How much does this cost? - ¿Cuánto cuesta este?
When is the next bus? - ¿Cuándo pasa el próximo autobús?
Where is the nearest hospital? - ¿Dónde está el hospital más cercano?

Summer Learning Journey

For this activity I had to take a selfie showing how I felt if I was in a foreign place with people who did speak my language. I would feel scared so I took a picture of me trying to act scared.

Summer Learning Journey

For this summer learning journey activity, I have to write about how I would feel if I was in a foreign country and I had to communicate with people in a brand new language. I would feel very nervous and scared, as I will probably be surrounded by people who speak a different language. Here is my poem that I made about it:

Everywhere I look
There are people who look like crooks
Random strangers who I don't know
Dressed in a suit and bow
Fear
Enough to scare I bear

(I know it's pretty bad but I tried)

Summer Blogging

For this activity I have to explain what my favorite subject at school is.

My favorite subject at school is reading. I really like to read and I read everyday. I like reading because it is cool and interesting. My favorite books are books with lots of action and adventure or a book from a movie that I like.

Summer Blogger

For this activity I have to interview a family member. For this interview I asked my little brother Alex five questions. What I said is in blue and what Alex said is in red

Question 1: What is you name? Alex
Question 2: Where were you born? In Auckland hospital
Question 3: How many siblings do you have? Two
Question 4: What is your favorite thing about living in New Zealand? The cool places in New Zealand like the Sky Tower
Question 5: If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go? Why? I would go to Hollywood in America, because that is where lots of famous movies are made!

Summer Blogging

For this activity I have to write about my family. I have to include information like my family's names, how many siblings I have and more!

I have 5 members in my family including me. There is my mum, dad, two brothers (one older than me and one younger than me) and me. My mum's name is Emmy, my dad's is Nick and my two brother's names are Thomas and Alex. My mum is Samoan and my Dad is kiwi.

Summer Blogging

For this activity I have to find a friend or family and ask them what their five favorite things to do in the summertime are. The person that I asked is one of my friends called AJ.

Number 1: Celebrating his birthday (which is in the summer)
Number 2: Go to the pools
Number 3: Hang out with my friends
Number 4: Watch a movie
Number 5: Going to the Library

Summer Blogging

For this activity I had to write a New Zealand recipe. The recipe I am doing is a steak and cheese pie.

Ingredients
700g rough puff pastry (recipe link at the bottom of the page)
    1 Tbsp olive oil
    1 Tbsp butter
    1 medium onion, finely chopped
    2 cloves garlic, crushed
    500g lean beef mince
    30g plain flour
175ml beef stock (ready-made is fine)
125ml beer (Sean used a lager beer)
2 Tbsp tomato puree or paste (Sean used paste)
1 Tbsp vegemite or marmite, optional (Sean used marmite)
    1 tsp balsamic vinegar
    ¼ tsp mixed herbs
    ¼ tsp salt
    ½ tsp pepper
    200g grated tasty cheese
1 egg (for egg wash, mixed together with 2 tablespoons of water)
2 Tbsp of black or white sesame seeds for the topping

Method
Heat the oil and butter in a large frying pan then add the onion and garlic and cook until the onion is golden, add the beef mince and cook until well browned, stirring break up any large lumps.

Stir in the flour and cook for approximately 30 seconds, gradually add the beef stock and beer and bring to the boil. Add the tomato puree and vegemite, balsamic vinegar, mixed herbs, salt and pepper to taste. Lower the heat and simmer gently 10 minutes, then remove from the heat and allow to cool.

Assembly and Baking: Cut off a quarter of the pastry block and set it aside for the pie lids.
On a lightly floured work surface, roll out the larger piece of pastry to a square approximately 4mm thick, cut into quarters.

Line each individual pie tin, ensuring the pastry is firmly lined against the sides, leaving the pastry hanging over the edge of the tins.

Roll out the smaller piece of pastry to a square approximately 3mm thick, cut the square into quarters, cover with plastic wrap and set aside.

Fill each pastry lined dish with the mince filling, almost up to the top then add a small handful of grated tasty cheese. Brush the edge of the pastry bases with water and place the pastry lid on top. Seal edges and trim excess pastry off with a sharp knife. Whisk the egg and water together and brush over the pastry top, sprinkle with sesame seeds. Rest for 1 - 2 hours (or longer) before baking. Place directly into a preheated oven set at 220°C and bake for 25 - 30 minutes or until golden brown in colour.

Allow to cool in the tins for 10 minutes, then remove from the tins and place on a cooling rack. Serve with your favourite tomato sauce and a crisp green salad or bowl of French fries.

I got this recipe from this website: http://www.chelsea.co.nz/browse-recipes/seans-kiwi-mince-and-cheese-pie/

Summer Blogging

For this activity I have to compare the breakfast normally eaten in another country to the breakfast I eat in New Zealand.

The country I am going to compare my breakfast with theirs is Germany. The foods that people eat in Germany are things like cheese platters, beans with toast and eggs, and mezze platters which is meat. Their food is quite different from mine because I eat cereal (Weet-bix) or toast and a cup of milo. I think that the bean with toast and eggs will be quite yum from breakfast, but the other two to me are what I might eat for dinner.
