For this summer learning journey activity, the task was to:
Watch this short video of a Waka Ama race. On your blog tell us whether you would like to be in a Waka Ama race one day. Why or why not?
I would definitely like to be in a Waka Ama race one day. It looks really fun competing with other people to see who is the fastest. It would be awesome to race with my family or friends.
I am a Year 8 student at Panmure Bridge School in Auckland, NZ. I am in Learning Space 2 and my teachers are Mrs Anderson, and Ms Kirkpatrick.

Summer Learning Journey W1 D1 A2
For this summer learning journey activity, the task was to:
Imagine that you were on board one of the wakas. On your blog, write a short letter to a friend telling them about your voyage to New Zealand. In the letter be sure to tell them how you feel about moving to a new country. If it was me, I would have felt really nervous…
Dear Johnny,
The voyage to this new land was hard. Most of our food had expired before we were even halfway here so most of us are hungry. The journey was also cold, with many storms that soaked us from head to toe. Hopefully we will be able to find some food in this new country. Goodbye for now.
Summer Learning Journey W1 D1 A1
For the first summer learning journey activity, the task was to:
Follow this link to read a short story about a famous man in Māori mythology – Maui. On your blog, post three facts that you learned about this interesting man. What other stories have you heard about Maui?
Facts:
1. Maui said a old Karakia while making his fishing line, so that it gave the line strength
2. His hook was made out of a jawbone
3. Maui's giant fish became the North Island and the canoe became the South Island

PBS Blogging Journey
For this PBS blogging journey activity, the task was to:
1. Choose a ride (From Rainbow's end) and explain why I would recommend that ride to a friend.
2. Describe how I might feel on that ride
3. Write 25 words and add an attributed video/picture of that ride
I would feel really excited on the Fear Fall because I love the thrill of going down really fast.
25 words about the ride: The Fear fall is an exciting and thrilling ride located in the awesome and amazing theme park of Rainbow's end in the city of Auckland.

PBS Blogging Journey

For this PBS blogging journey activity, I have to find out the minimum height to ride the stratosphere and why I think there is a height restriction. There are two different modes of the ride, the very extreme and the less extreme. For the very extreme (360 degree swing angle) mode, the height restriction is 150 centimeters. For the less extreme (45 degree swing angle) mode, the height restriction is 130 centimeters. I think that there is a height restriction because if you are a young/small person, you could slip off your seat and fall.
PBS Blogging Journey
For this activity, I had to use google maps to locate Rainbow's end, find out how much it costs for a family pass and I had to find out how much it would cost for my family to go. I find it weird how if you buy tickets online, you get them for a cheaper price than buying it at the gate.

Winter Learning Journey
For the first bonus activity of the Winter learning journey, I had to design a new flag. I could use any drawing programme I wanted. I kind of like the flag we have now so I left it mostly the same except I added a kiwi (Because that is what New Zealanders are also know as) and I changed the dark blue background into a lite blue background (Which I thought looker way better). I also changed the red in the union jack into black, so the union jack kind of represents our sports teams (All blacks, black caps and black sticks)
Winter Learning Journey
For this activity in the winter learning journey, I had to watch this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-qldi00zUxA
and once I finished the video, I had to choose my favourite five activities from the video.
- Go to rainbows end!!!
- Tree top walk in the Waitakere Ranges
- Going to one of the west coast beaches
- Base jump off the sky tower
- Go to the war memorial museum
Winter Learning Journey
For the first activity of the winter learning journey, I had to go to the Tourism New Zealand site and choose three facts about the people of New Zealand. Here are my three facts:
- Almost 7/10 (69%) of New Zealanders are of European descent
- Rugby is New Zealand’s national sport (Being the most popular sport in NZ and having a great rugby team)
- There are 4 main cities in New Zealand (Auckland, Wellington, Hamilton and Christchurch) with 1/3 of the population living in Auckland.

Summer Learning Journey
For this summer learning journey activity I have to write a letter to a friend or family member to tell them that I am going to visit a country of my choice. In my letter, I have to tell them where I am going, why I have decided to go to that particular country and how long I will be away. I can also invite them, if I like.
Dear Mum
I am going to a country called Canada in two weeks time. I decided to go there because it seems like a very interesting country. I will be away for 5 days and I am wondering if you could come with me. It would be a cool and interesting experience to visit a country you have never seen before.
Daniel
Summer Learning Journey
For this summer learning journey activity, I have to find out three facts about the country I chose to learn about (I chose Canada).
Fact one: Canada is the second largest country in the world, after Russia
Fact two: Canada has more lakes than the rest of the world’s lakes combined
Fact three: Canada was the third country in space, after the US and the USSR
Summer Learning Journey
For this summer reading challenge activity, I have to chose a country that I would like to visit and give at least two reasons for choosing that country. I chose Canada because I don’t know much about Canada and I would like to learn more. My second reason for choosing this country is that I noticed (While researching) that one of their official languages is French, I wanted to find out why one of their two official languages is French.

Winter Learning Journey
For this winter learning journey (Activity 3) I had to think about a rule that the Greek had in their Olympics. One of their rules was NO girls are allowed. I do not think this is fair because everyone should try and see if they are good at something rather than just watching from the stands.
Winter Learning Journey
For activity 2 in the winter learning journey, I had to find out three facts about Milo of Kroton (A famous person who participated in the ancient Greek Olympics).
Fact 1: Milo won many victories in the ancient Greek Olympics.
Winter Learning Journey
For activity one on the winter learning journey, I had to chose of the sports the Greeks did in their Olympics. I chose running. I chose it because I like to run and do things like fun run's and cross country's. Out of the three types of Olympic running I would like to do the dolichos (Run 20 lengths of the stadium) because I am better at long distance running.
