Warrior's Game

Today 16 lucky students and 2 lucky teachers went to the warrior's game. It was warriors v panthers. First the students and teachers came to school at 3:30pm. It was a very exciting match, with lots of epic tries and a fair amount of fails too. I had a great time and I think everyone else did too. A very big thanks to DTR for getting us the tickets. The final score was 20 (The warriors score) to 16 (The panthers score). I was very happy that the warriors beat the panthers.

Winter Learning Journey Prizes

Today Rachel from the Auckland university came to Panmure Bridge School to give out the certificates and prizes to the people to participated or came 1st, 2nd or 3rd in the competition. Lots of PBS people participated and got a certificate for their effort. Nesi came 3rd, I came 2nd and AJ came 1st. Rachel also said that panmure bridge school had the most people blogging over the holiday's and the most people who finished all of the 21 set tasks. My favorite task was when I rated the Eddie the eagle trailer. I gave it a five star rating because I think it is a cool movie with a person with a great purpose.

Tech

Today was the first week back at tech for this term. The year seven's are still doing pewter casting, while half the year 8's are doing cooking and the other half is doing digital tech. I had a great time filing my pewter to make it smooth and round. At digital tech, half the year 8's did the design briefs for their game that they are making, and the cooking class made macaroni and cheese.

Buddy Reading

Today LS2 had a visit from some people in the juniors. Rooms 3 and 4 came up to Learning Space 2 to do some buddy reading. LS2 people and the people from room 3 and 4 partnered up to read a book. There were lots of books to chose from and everyone obviously enjoyed it (Teachers and students).

Book Week

Today all of the teachers and most of the students from panmure bridge school dressed up as a character from one of their favorite books, or a book that they have read.  Many people dressed up as superheros like the hulk, superman and batman. My friend, Lyndon, even made is own DIY batman costume. We also got a visit from a police man called Cyrus.

Advertising DLO

This is my advertising DLO I made with Juanita and Javeylor. We had a challenge: explain in 25 words what advertising means. We also attributed one of our images (The other's were taken by Mrs Anderson).

Monday 25 July 2016

Attributing Images

Today, LS2 did some research on attributing images. We learnt that it is not all right to steal someones image (If you just snatch it off the internet it is still stealing because you are taking without permission). We then made a DLO with attributed images.

Winter Learning Journey

For this winter learning journey I have to think about what sport I would add to the para Olympics if I could. I would add either wheelchair handball or wheelchair squash because they are great games and I think even people with disabilities could do them. Though I like squash better and I think it would be easier to play than handball. Here is a example of people playing squash: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZY_QWYtZVQI
Sport: Wheelchair squash
How to play: Hit the ball with a racket above the bottom line but below the bottom line.
Three rules:
1: You need two people
2: You need a proper squash court
3: You can hit the walls to the side too, but not the one behind you

Winter Learning Journey

For this winter learning journey I had to list 2 different ways on how I could fun raise money for the para Olympic people to fly to Rio De Janerio. Even though Harvey Norman is helping to raise funds they might still need more. I also hope that my dad is helping the para Olympic people because he works for Harvey Norman.

Number One: Knock on people's doors and ask them to support the para athletes
Number Two: Ask people who have disabilities but aren't in the Olympic to help the para Olympic people because they might help other people like them

Winter Learning Journey

For this winter learning journey activity I had to think about who would I like to have with me if I pretended that I would compete in the para-cycling. The para-cycling is for people who have disabilities. One person has a disabilities but the other doesn't. I would probably chose my dad because he is a great bike rider and is really cool.

Winter Learning Journey

For this winter learning journey I had to finish off the end of a story. The story so far is this: Imagine that you are sitting in the crowd at the opening ceremonies for the Rio Olympics this August. The ceremony has just started and all of the Olympic athletes are parading around the stadium in their uniforms when all of a sudden...

My part of the story: BOOM! A loud explosion shook the stadium. The people who were inside that stadium were frozen in shock. They didn't know what happened. Then, the realization came and with it, came the panic. Many people fell over each other in the rush to escape the fateful stadium. Security ran all over the place trying to restore order. It was a terrorist attack. Luckily there were no casualties but 76 people were injured.

Winter Learning Journey

For this winter learning journey I had to pretend that I was invited to be in the committee that decided which people from New Zealand should go to the Olympic opening ceremony. I had to chose out of these people: Richie McCaw, Lorde, Kane Williamson, Maria Tutaia, John Key or Shaun Johnson. I would chose Kane Williamson because I like cricket (Which is what he plays).

Winter Journey Learning

For this winter learning journey activity I had to chose which uniform was better out of the 2012, 2008 and 2004 Olympics. I think that the 2012 was the best, because it was the latest ones. Then the 2008 uniforms because it had a detailed silver fern. I think that the 2004 uniform are the worst because even though they have a silver fern, it is not detailed much.

Winter Learning Journey

For this winter learning journey activity I had to think of someone that inspires me. I thought for a while and I realized that the person that inspires me the most is not a world leader like George Washington or Abraham Lincoln. The person that inspires me the most is my mum because she always encourages me and helps me, whether it is with my learning or with something like playing a outdoor sport.

Winter Learning Journey

For this winter learning activity I had to imagine that I was alive during 1936 when a 13 year old girl called Marjorie Gestring won a gold medal in the Olympics (Her event was spring board diving). I also had to pretend that I was interview her and I had to write down five questions that I would ask her.
Question 1: Why did you chose spring board diving?
Question 2: How did you feel when you won the gold?
Question 3: Aren't you to young to compete?
Question 4: Is spring board diving something you really like to do?
Question 5: How many people did you beat?

Winter Learning Journey

For this winter learning journey I had to watch the trailer of a movie called Eddie The Eagle. I really liked watching the trailer because Eddie was a person who never had a chance to prove himself. He was always put down by other kids and even his parents! In the end of it I think Eddie successfully manages to ski jump properly. I also think Eddie is a great example for every one, because he was clear about one think: He would never ever give up.

Winter Learning Journey

For this winter learning journey activity I had to watch a video called be the inspiration. It was made by the New Zealand Olympic team. After watching the video I had to rate it and say what I liked and didn't like. I liked how it showed different athletes from New Zealand instead of just one or two. I didn't like those colored lines that went across the screen (I didn't know what they were for). I give this video a four star (****) rating. If you want to watch the video for yourself here is the link to the website: http://betheinspiration.nz/

Winter Learning Journey

For this winter learning journey I had to imagine I was going to meet one of these three athletes: Lauren Boyle, Stuart Farquhar or Andrea Kilday. I would choose to meet Stuart because he does javelin throwing and he biggest throw was 86.31 meters. That is very impressive because I doubt that I could throw that far. It must have taken a lot of training and hours practicing.

Winter Learning Journey

For the next winter learning journey activity I had to pick one of the 76 New Zealand people going to the Rio De Janerio Olympic games and write their name, the sport they play and three interesting facts about them.
Name: Valerie Adams
Sport she plays: Shot put
Fact 1: She was born in Rotorua
Fact 2: She has won 2 gold medals in the Olympics and another 3 in the Commonwealth
Fact 3: She has won 14 New Zealand shot put titles

Winter Learning Journey

For this winter learning journey task I had to write a poem. I had to write a poem about how I would feel if I was a reporter and I was being paid to attend the Olympic games and report on the golf/rugby competitions.
I would be nervous, and scared out of my wits
I would rather be in a blitz
Then, I took a pause and realized how lucky I was
To get to watch the athletes and see the people applause

Winter Learning Journey

For this winter learning journey I had to take a picture of myself pretending to be playing one of the 28 Olympic sports. I pretended to play Judo (I was actually in my dressing gown because I didn't know what else to do for it).

Winter Learning Journey

For this activity (Activity 7) I had to visit the website for the 2016 Rio Olympics and look at all of the sports they are doing. I then had to find one that I have not heard about (For me it was Judo) and find out the name of the sport, the aim of the sport and two rules for the sport.
Name of sport: Judo
Aim of sport: Competitors must throw their opposition onto the floor to win.
Two rules: You cannot injure your opponent and you are not allowed to touch the other person.

Winter Learning Journey

For this activity I had to design my own logo for the 2020 Olympic games (In Tokyo, Japan). I using design mantic to create my logo. Here is the link to design mantic: http://www.designmantic.com/. I chose it because it looks like a person in sport gear. Here is my logo:

Winter Learning Journey

For this activity I had to find out three interesting landmarks in New Zealand like the Sky Tower and the Harbor bridge (I didn't do those because they were the examples).
One: Paeroa (The place that created L&P)
Two: Te Puke Kiwifruit
Three: Ohakune Carrort

Winter Learning Journey

For this winter learning journey activity (Activity 4) I watched a video about the Rio De Janeiro 2016 Olympics mascots. Their names and Tom and Vinicius. After watching the video I researched about them and found some cool facts. If you what to know more about the mascots here is a link to a website: https://www.rio2016.com/mascots/#!home. The video was about two characters (Named Vinicius and Tom) who meet and become friends when they chase two floating balls. Olympic and Paralympic Mascots

Winter Learning Journey

For this winter learning journey (Activity 3) I had to think about a rule that the Greek had in their Olympics. One of their rules was NO girls are allowed. I do not think this is fair because everyone should try and see if they are good at something rather than just watching from the stands.

Winter Learning Journey

For activity 2 in the winter learning journey, I had to find out three facts about Milo of Kroton (A famous person who participated in the ancient Greek Olympics).
Fact 1: Milo won many victories in the ancient Greek Olympics.
Fact 2: He was a 6th century wrestler
Fact 3: He was one of the six legendary wrestlers of the ancient world.

Winter Learning Journey

For activity one on the winter learning journey, I had to chose of the sports the Greeks did in their Olympics. I chose running. I chose it because I like to run and do things like fun run's and cross country's. Out of the three types of Olympic running I would like to do the dolichos (Run 20 lengths of the stadium) because I am better at long distance running.

Spark Leadership Visit

Yesterday, LS2 got a visit from a woman called Lynne Le Gros. She worked for Spark (The company that used to be called telecom) and she told us about the Sir Peter Blake Trust. When Sir Peter Blake was sadly killed, his family created a trust for New Zealand kids to become leaders. We also got a free bag, notepad, pen and cap from Spark.

Orienteering Reflection

Photo
Today the year seven and eight's had their final session of orienteering. This time, we combined the two year groups instead of one at a time. We could chose to work by ourselves or work with other people. I worked with Lyndon and AJ. Our final time was 14 minutes and 25 seconds.

Get Wise

Today the year seven's received a visit from a man from ASB. He was talking to us about saving some of our money and spending some on ourselves. It was very interesting and I learnt a lot. We also learnt 3 ways a person my age can earn money (Chores, Neighborhood work and Sell/Trade).

Life Education

Today the year seven's went to life education. We learnt about making decisions. We watched a video where a girl made a decision to hang out with her friends rather than waiting for her sister. It was very cool even though we didn't meet Harold.

Reading Comprehension Games

Today LS2 played some reading comprehension games. I played a Author's purpose one. This picture is what PIE (Persuade, Inform and Entertain) means. PIE is the author's purpose.

Life Education

Today the year 7's went to life education. The teacher there from life education is Nicole. We met Bob who showed us inside the human body. We also learnt about the body system, the nervous system and the circulatory system. We learnt that the brain sends signals to our body when we want to do something. We also played a game where we had to clap the exact number of time that Nicole said. It might seem easy, but it was actually kind of hard. The year 7's had a great time visiting the life education caravan.

Story Starters

This is my story that I made on a website called story starters. I had to write a birthday invitation to a devious gorilla who solves crimes. I like story starters because I chooses what your topic us randomly. Also, there are four formats (Letter, postcard, newspaper and notebook).
