NEXT Foundation Visit
Yesterday, the NEXT Foundation came into Panmure Bridge school. They were here to launch the Summer Learning Journey. Some other people also came: Mr Burt (Principal of Pt England School), Rachel Williams (The creator of the Summer and Winter Learning Journeys). Some of the people from the NEXT Foundation including Bill Kermode (The CEO of the NEXT foundation) also came. Some of the students from Panmure Bridge (including myself) spoke on stage about the Summer Learning Journey. They came to showcase a video that they created for the launch of the Summer Learning Journey and I was the main character in it. It was really fun shooting the movie (which we filmed at my house and at school). I really enjoyed being part of it. After assembly, the NEXT foundation provided lunch for everyone in our school. It was delicious.

Finding Out About Coalitions
Today in LS2 we were learning about coalitions and how they can change/affect the elections. A coalition is an alliance which is formed between political parties. In the N.Z. election, Winston Peters (who is the NZ First party leader) basically decides whether Labour or National wins the election. So if he decides to team up with Labour, they will have enough seats to become the new government and vice versa for National.

Why it's great to be me
It's great to be me because I have a caring and loving family that look after me. Today we have been learning about DARE. We created a DLO about why it's cool to be me. In it, we had to write down our goals. My goals are to become a qualified pilot when I am older and to have a successful life. After that, we made a word cloud with words about why it is great to be the age we are now.

This DLO is for my attitude CARE award. For the task, I had to research the role of the PHN (Public Health Nurse) in our school and tell others how they help us. The public health nurse in our school comes into our class every day to make sure that no one has a sore throat or a skin sore.

Water Conserving In Auckland
Today, Shannon, CJ and I created a DLO about why people living in Auckland have been asked to conserve water. We also added it about how people can save water. Watercare says that each person should save 20 liters a day. Some ways you can save water are: Having a shorter shower, only turning on your dishwasher when it is full or turn off the tap while you brush your teeth.

Today at assembly the student leaders got their badges. They have a silver background with the Panmure Bridge school logo on it. The badges also have the student leaders name on it. Under our names, are our positions (Head students, Sport leaders, Manaiakalani leaders). The badges look awesome!

Omaru River
For inquiry, we were learning about the Omaru river. We learnt that a sewage leak happened because of a blockage caused by wet wipes. When that happened, the water turned black and smelly and the fish and eels died. Watercare cleaned it up by pumping in clean water and pumping out dirty water. I worked with Fraidoon on this task.
Maths
Today for maths, we had to find our own greatest common factor game. The game that we found is called Sketch's world. If you would like to play it, here is the link: http://www.fun4thebrain.com/beyondfacts/gcfsketch.html. It is a really fun game and I enjoyed playing it.

Comparative and Superlative
Today for writing, we were learning the comparative and superlative words. We did a few words, but I decided to use the word angry. The comparative word for angry, is angrier and the superlative word for angry is angriest. I found some pictures to show those three words.

For inquiry, my partner Fraidoon and I created a DLO about what we learnt about rivers. My partner and I first watched a video about what a river is. Then we wrote a short explanation (It had to be 25 words) about our learning on rivers. After that, we found a image of the Tamaki river. We put in arrows and text boxes showing the features that the river has, like the source, mouth and more.

Water Testing
Here is a DLO that AJ and I created a DLO of the water testing we did with Sally. We tested some liquids like Coke and Bike cleaner. We learnt that liquids like coke, which are very acidic, are bad for fish.
Tech
Today for tech, the year eights had food tech. We made these cupcake like things (Bread as the base and spaghetti on top). We worked in groups of twos and threes and at the end, when we tasted it, it was very delicious. A very big thanks to Mrs Heka for helping us create it.
The Water Cycle
For inquiry, my group created a DLO about what the water cycle is (I was in a group with Lyndon and Sa Kae). We learnt that the water in oceans and lakes/rivers get burnt by the sun and turn into water vapour. The water vapour goes up into the sky where it turns into water droplets (Which gather together). Those water droplets are clouds and once the clouds are too full, it rains. The rain then goes into the oceans, lakes/rivers and the process starts again.
