Summer Learning Journey

For this summer reading challenge activity, I have to chose a country that I would like to visit and give at least two reasons for choosing that country. I chose Canada because I don’t know much about Canada and I would like to learn more. My second reason for choosing this country is that I noticed (While researching) that one of their official languages is French, I wanted to find out why one of their two official languages is French.

I love that you have posted such a thoughtful comment on Daniel's blog. It is a great example of a high quality comment - it clearly shows that you have read through his post, considered what he has said and commented on it in light of your own work.

  4. Bonjour Daniel!

Welcome back to the Summer Learning Journey programme. I am so happy to have you back! I am also thrilled to see that AJ and Ohhsen have also posted comments on your blog. You guys do an amazing job with this programme every year. I can't wait to see what you discover this time!

I really like that you chose to go to Canada. I think that you will learn a lot about my home country. It's pretty interesting (although I have to admit that I am a little bit biased given that I was born and raised there)!

We do speak both English and French in many parts of the country. My home city of Ottawa is the capital of Canada and it is in the province of Ontario. Ottawa is located very close to the border of the next province to the east, Quebec. It is our predominantly French-speaking province. Most people who live in Quebec speak French as a first language. I used to be relatively capable of understanding French but after living away from home for 15 years I have forgotten quite a bit of it :(

I will look forward to journeying through Canada with you over the summer holiday.

    See you online!

Au revoir (Good bye for now),
    Rachel

  5. Kia ora Daniel!

Thank you so much for joining the Summer Learning Journey programme. I'm really excited to follow your blogs taking us around Canada over the next four weeks.

My name is Dan, and I'm working alongside Rachel and Mark over the summer. I'm lucky enough to be able to read your blogs and I'll be leaving comments as I go. If you want to reply to my comments then please do! I'd love to know what you think, or if you have any questions, feel free to ask away.

I think Canada is a great choice for your learning journey. I've never been there, but I'd really like to visit one day, especially at this time of year - how much fun would Christmas time be with all that snow?

I like that you chose Canada because you want to learn more about the country. It's always good to want to learn more and to keep an open mind about different countries and cultures. I think it's interesting that they have more than one official language. Do you know how many official languages New Zealand has?

Thanks for starting your blogs Daniel. I'm looking forward to reading them.

    Cheers,
    Dan.

  7. Kia ora Daniel,
My name is Tania and I am a Manaiakalani Outreach Facilitator - I work in lots of different schools with teachers and learners who, like you, are using chromebooks for their learning and blogs to share their learning. I am really impressed to see you have already achieved so much of the Summer Learning journey and shared your learning on your blog. It's great to see you researching, reading and writing all about Canada. I have never been to Canada so it's great to learn from your research. Keep up the great learning and sharing. Enjoy your summer break.
